Ladder Company Turns Jewel Robbery Into a Viral Win
put (our/their/your) heads together: to discuss ideas and work as a group to solve a problem or make a plan
A German ladder company turned a one of the biggest jewel robberies in modern history into advertising gold. When the owners of Böcker saw a photo of their ladder-style lift being used in the €88 million Louvre jewel theft, they couldn’t believe it. The thieves had used the company’s equipment to climb into the museum and steal the jewels.
Rather than shy away from the attention, Böcker decided to use it. Marketing chief Julia Scharwatz said they “started making a few jokes and putting our heads together on slogans we found funny.” The next morning, they shared an ad showing the same lift with the words “When you need to move fast.”
Later in the week, Böcker posted an English version: “If you’re in a hurry. The Böcker Agilo carries your treasures… quiet as a whisper…” The post reached 1.7 million people online. Some called it “tasteless,” but most praised the humor. Police said two suspects have confessed, but the jewels are still missing.
